Once you have decided on a basic style for your lettering, there are many ways you can embellish your letters to get the look you want.
Using dots is a very easy way to change the look of your lettering. If I am unhappy with the way my journaling looks, or if I find that my journaling isn't as straight as I would like it, I sometimes embellish my letters with dots. I find that this type of lettering is a lot nicer to look at and help to correct some minor imperfections.
A variation on using dots, is using open circles.
Just by changing the size of the pen point, you can change the whole look of your lettering.
